Just a newbie question. Getting a start on plants indoors- once the plant erupt from the soil and shed their seed should I adjust the height of the grow lights. I would say the lights are currently 14 inches above the plants. Thanks

I use ordinary fluorescent tubes, I have my plants as close as possible, but I don't let the leaves touch the lights. If you are using a more intense light than just fluorescents you may be able to put more room in between the plants and the light source. You have to remember that artificial light is much much weaker than natural sunlight and therefore the closer you get it to the plants the stockier and the less stretching the plants will do.

I run my 8 tube t5 s about 14 to 16 inches above the plants... They do throw off some heat. So I use a fan as well.. no leggy plants here

I use cfl bulbs in a box lined with aluminum foil to reflect the light all over. The bulbs are about a foot above the leaves. My seedlings do just fine.

What I have used in the past were lights from an aquarium a couple inches above the young plants.
Be careful not to put them too close as it will cause the first and second true leaves to burn.

Use the sun as much as possible.I was lucky this year with a lot of warm weather and sun. Most of my kins sprouted in direct sunlight. No need to harden off.
Best of luck!
