The person in India had no intention of paying you for postage and handling and believes he deserves the seeds for free because he is a student in college. He has never planted giant pumpkins before.

Postage to India is around $7

I don't think I would given your statement that he 'deserves the seeds for free'. This hobby requires some investment on the growers part.

i would not pay the postage ,,,seems that the good old usa pays for everything ---you want to play then pay

Yes I most likely would send the seeds because when someone is using an online translator to communicate, things don't always come out the exact way we intend them to. Maybe he meant to say I am a college student and don't have enough money to purchase U.S. dollars to send you 7. (Some places require you to buy 100 dollar bills at a time as an fyi). In cases of expensive postage, I try to send them enough seeds to last a few years.

Not always Andy.. I gave out lots of seeds this year. Some went to Italy,Australia, and the good old USA..And I ate the postage. And everyone was very appreciative.
I think Barbeetoo is right...

I sent seeds to Italy,Germany and India this year and paid the postage. The guy in India was poor but seemed to stock me every time I went on facebook.I sent seeds but had to drop him as a friend because he constantly was interrupting my facebook time

Makes good sense to me bubba,I guess I wish I had the good sense to have thought it through a little better. When people ask for seeds I just send them

I don't know bubba... I plan on planting a greenie this year for the first time, I'm not gonna bother throwing any money at it at all...I'm sure it won't do much,if anything, but I can guarantee I'll be just as excited in the process as the grower that can "afford it"...besides ,I certainly wouldn't want to have to buy a Benjamin to send a bubble if I could find a way around it..especially as a student..

The guy from India was pestering ALL my Facebook contacts, including the ones that don't grow giant pumpkins, so I blocked him from my page. My friends don't need to be pestered, and I don't need to be pestered.

Bubba had a very good point about cash to grow AGs. And the guy is in New Delhi. Heat and monsoons aren't conducive to big pumpkins.

Oh.. You shoulda said that... I vote no

@ Bubba.... Not quite sure I share your approach. It's not really fair for us to judge whether someone has enough money or not. How they grow, how much they spend and what they end up growing is relative to them.

And....circumstances change. There was a time when I couldn't buy a certain seed and was told the same... which wasn't nice.

I eventually purchased what I wanted, circumstances changed and now I am well set for a good year.

I know this is all off topic Steve but I had to pick up on something I don't agree with.

No offence intended Mark.

If you havent any money to buy insecticides. The bugs will destroy the plant by the 4th of July.I haven given hundreds of seeds away in the past.Come July the plant didnt make it.They were not going to spend any money on it.Why send a bubble to India? If he has no money to grow it.You cant grow a giant of any kind without spending money

If someone wanted food but couldn't afford to eat would you refuse to give them any because they couldn't afford to heat it up?

It is up to you. $7.00 is not a lot of $$. I helped a student get an A in his class with a couple of emails. There are a lot of cows there, Poo = nutes.

Food is a necessity I would never deny anybody food for any reason.7$ times the dozens who ask is more then I can do in a year. Its up to you what you give & who you give to.Im a giver all the way.Not a taker. It just dont add up? I want to join a bowling league & bowl once a week.I have no money. Will you pay my way Jimbo??lol

@Jimbo01...I get where your coming from but food/hunger and pumpkin seeds/growing are very different set of circumstances and I am not sure its a fair analogy...to me its a matter of choice if you wanna pay the postage great if you don't thats ok to...at the end of the day VTsteve is not obligated provide seeds/postage to this guy...

Jimbo was just being silly. And if it were one guy & one guy only maybe you might be lead to send the seed.I tried to find out what the whole picture was talking to this student on FB.He just kept saying.Send me seed I have no money. So I need a little more information then that to take time to ship and fill out a customs form.I asked him about plant care.No response. So send away if you like, but I will save my charity seeds for what I feel is a better cause.

Here is a better analogy I want to join a bowling league but cant afford to buy a decent ball.Could someone send me a free ball.I am very broke and a student.

Ok Your asking a man who never had the money to become a student.lol

Now how will you come up with the 15$ a week to bowl??

Could you please just send me a bowling ball.

Nope this doesnt add up!!lol

Freedom Is Just Another Word For Noting Left To Lose

It wasn't my goal to upset anyone. It is VTsteve's money and he can choose what he would like to spend it on. Bubba, I'll consider the bowling league & new ball.

I've already spent over 200 dollars sending seeds to people this year. I'm retired and on a fixed income, dangit! Maybe Bubba can build me a doghouse I can sleep in for a modest fee and I can rent out my house.

Just for the record, I made no comment as to if seed should have been sent or not. My issue was something else.

When I first started growing years ago it was Steve that sent me a batch of seed and said don't worry about the postage, I'll send it. Very generous and not forgotten!

Steve, I did you receive my email?.....there's a nice offer in it for you which I think you might like ;)

$7 to help out a student, perhaps become a better, more generous person, that's a low price to pay, let me knows his/her address and I'll send him a bunch of seeds.

I passed along Alan Gibson's email. Alan wanted to help him out. Indian guy refused to contact OVGPG.

Something not right here.

Same Indian guy contacted me through Facebook. I accepted his friend request because he was friends with other growers that I was friends with as well. He pestered the hell out of me whenever I was online. Then one day (about a week after I accept his request) he asks me to make a monthly donation of 10% of my income to his charity. I un-friended him immediately. Some kind of odd stuff going on with this guy
