The 1068 being planted this year, would be like when Michael Jordan retired and then came back to play at age 40!

No one said you have to plant it.

Probably should be framed or put in a museum somewhere.

What are the odds it would germinate? 11 years is a pretty long time.

How sweet that will be for the winning bidder!

If it DID germinate, think of what you could pollinate it with.

Of course, selfing it would be a priority.

Old genetics yeah but new practices and supplements.

The 842 Eaton 2002 would also be considered old genetics today but 11 years ago it produced 1446 Eaton 2004. Now I am sure if Mr Eaton grew that 842 in 2015 we could see it producing up with the top lot.

When looking on the "Giant Pumpkin Statistics and Grower Resource," starting with the heaviest pumpkin and going down, any pumpkin with a genetic family tree history had the 1068 in it until I reached the 1689 Jutras grown in 2007. The only exception in between was a couple of pumpkins that had incomplete family trees, such as including just the immediate parents and nothing else. So unless I missed one, in essence, EVERY PUMPKIN with a real family history on there until the 1689 Jutras has 1068 genetics in it. That's really nothing short of remarkable.

I cast up my last 1068 into gold many years ago. Made a mold of it and cast 4 gold copies. Grew that seed and lost plant to yellow vine disease. Great seed but theres better out there now.

We germinated 1005 Mombert (2002) last year no problem. Older seeds if stored properly can sprout just like fresh year old seeds.
