It doesn't look good; I just got my water bill they want
20% REDUCTION for now and a possible 40 percent mandatory
in March,they even gave me a phone number to turn in water
abusers.

40% down here by summer and citations if caught watering on any day other then Tuesday or Thursday.

May have no other choice then to rest this 2014 season .

We had that same problem here in 2009 except with 60% water reduction. we had to pump water from a nearby pond. not very fun.

Can you "recycle" your grey water? It is a bit of work to re-plumb the drains under the floor but some areas are allowing and (GASP!) even encouraging this for garden water. It depends on your local building/health code.
It's only taken the first world a century to figure out what the turd world has known forever. Water is precious. Reuse.
Although it seems to be discouraged in the AG community mulch is the traditional way of conserving water in a garden bed. Yes, it can encourage some bad creatures like slugs, but it also encourages good guys like rove beetles. I live in an area with massive slugs and mulch like a mad man, slug bait is cheap. From grass clippings (sounds like you want have much of that ) to leaves to newspaper or cardboard (not very pretty) or even black plastic; there are a lot of mulch options.
Or you are welcome to run a pipe from my pond, and just send some of that Calif. sun in return.

PS, Depending on your neighborhood and modesty; an exterior shower with a drain to garden is not that hard to build and pleasant to use. Had a garden shower for years (summer use) and loved it. Also, I have a friend with a very poor well and they wash dishes in a plastic pan in the gardening season and that goes on the garden. It all helps.

I hope and pray that California gets some drought relief. We just went through 2 hot dry summers that made growing real tough. Now we are 30 degrees below normal and have the second deepest snow pack that I have seen in the past 28 years. I saw on the national news about using grey water for gardens in California. They won't allow that in Iowa. I guess the DNR is afraid that the farmers will have pig and cow poo in their laundry water and someone might pee in the shower.

I saw on TV the other night and man it looks bad out there. They said if some areas got rain every other day till May, they'd still be in a drought. I am hoping you guys get a good months worth soon. It was like that here in 2012 and some trees are still dying from that year, and not to mention how many farmers lost it all.

If you've never drivin the 101 up through Lompoc, Santa Maria San Yenes Valley area (was stationed out there for 6) and seen all the produce fields, even north and south by 120 miles be prepared to grab yer lower extremities because I can just see prices on produce goin through the roof from loss..really hope I'm wrong. I hate to see erosion with all the fires but man you guys need it to ran a couple weeks straight just to start. Good Luck

Handy, I use to monitor water wells on the west coast San Yanez area, avg static water level for wells out there for me was around 130 ft and that was in early 1990's. It most likely even deeper.

Last year in Colorado we started out with watering restrictions. I'm on well water fortunately but know of some other growers on city water that might have been watering on non-watering days (and I don't blame them). Some late spring rain and they lifted the restrictions. And then as you recall we had more rain in September than we knew what we could do with. There are some mountain communities that are still shut down from the flood damage. Lets hope things turn around for California soon.
