define "all time" don't all modern AGs go back to 1 or 2 of Howard Dill's seeds? The 575 Dill 88 grew a few records. how about William Warnock's records that stood for 70+ years.
looking back just the last few years, the 1161 and 1385 were the hot seeds and grew WRs.
the 1725 and 2009 are hot now and are growing WRs.
I guess my standard for best seed is which seeds grew the most World Records.

all great answers.i think in its hay day the 1068 certainly helped a lot of average growers become good to great growers.i know it certainly did for ron and i.
same can be said for the 845 bobier. another great seed.
we must also remember that along with the greatest seed argument we realize that seeds grown before the computer age and bp.c did not get on the info highway like todays results. who know how many older seeds did great and we never knew about it?

We're talking about the 5 seeds that made growing what it is today? If so, then here are the seeds found in many of the top genetics today.
#5 898 Knauss #4 845 Bobbier #3 1385 Jutras, the king of all modern genetics #2 1068 Wallace, found in many of the top genetics today. #1,,,,, has to go to,,,,,,,, the first AG'S ever produced by Howard Dill. The sport wouldn't be here without them.
Now if you are talking about the BEST seeds ever in recent time. I will not order them from 1 to 5 as it os very hard to know which seed is the absolute best seed.
2009 Wallace 220 Debacco 1495 Stelts 1623 Wallace 1725 Harp

On pumpkin fanatic site the seed statistics and the grower metrics are quite interesting. The most used seeds are, as you might expect, many of the ones mentioned here.
I constantly wonder how much of the recent size gains is from genetic selection and how much is from newer growing techniques. Makes me think that maybe some of the older seeds that were major advances still have some potential to be crossed into one of the newer biggies. It would be a two year project and would require more space than I have.

Cavitysearch,
I was wondering the same thing. Of course, that would be backwords breeding. I like all of the newer hot genetics.

Whatever seed grew my last personal best is the greatest of al time. But the seeds that have had the greatest influence:
845 1068 1385 1725 2009
Each of those seeds started a new generation. Also noteworthy: 1370, 1161, 1495.

It's been done with the 898 Knauss a few times, I know Daletas has a few crosses with the 898 and newer seeds. Ie. 1502 Daletas (1725 Harp x 898 Knauss)

220 is already on the top seeds list. Besides the 2009 and 1495 it seems to bring in the most money, and it was proven to 2 10709 lovers out of 7 total grown I think?

Would one of the criteria for a great seed be what lasting impact it has on future generations? If a seed is a great producer, can it really be one of the great seeds until its' offspring prove out?
