Hi,
I just received some husky 6 mil clear plastic in the mail. I know that this stuff will become brittle after a year or so of uv but it is what I am stuck with. Is this stuff too translucent to use as greenhouse plastic? Thanks!

I used 2 and 3 mil before and it has a milky appearance to it.I am at about 5000 ft above sea level in Montana, and have not had any problems with it for shadeing and against hail damage.

Try ACF West in Fife, WA. Manure Man told me of this covering they have. Great stuff. Laminated mil fabric with diamond mesh stitching in the middle. You can punture it; but it will not tear. Lasts many years so far with no noticeable wear or brittleness. Extremely stong as well. My two redbone coonhounds were on top of the cloches (why? they are dogs) no damage, no puncutures, no tears. And it costs about half of what you pay for the 6 mil clear at Home Depot. Manure Man is an expert on this type of material and others (it his job). CRB (pumpkin Ron) probably has his e-mail.

Ashton, It may work for 3 or 4 months but that's about it and in the end makes a terrible mess.
Here is what I use. 4 yr uv and very tough stuff:
www.greenhousemegastore.com/product/4-year-greenhouse-film
*It's on sale 10% off until the end of the month.

I try to buy a good 6 mil product. The other stuff is just throwing your money away. Bought too much of it that is just crap. Spend the extra and buy something decent. Happy Growing to all in 2014!

I staple it to wood frames...I'm a carpenter so I have plenty of scrap pressure treated wood that I can re-purpose. I have used the cheap Chineese $#@! before...kinda like buying used tires...you are never done

screen is better the plastic keeps the bugs out doesnt get to hot.Screen cost about 1200$ for a 32 X 75$ will last 6-7 years if you roll it up in the winter. You can buy a 40X100 roll of plastic 6 mil for about 180$.It will last at least 2 summers for rolling on top of screen in early spring & late september. Also you can roll plastic over when heavy rains are predicted.Plastic is just to hot to keep on all summer and your not keeping the bugs out.Check out my screen house's.http://worldwidegiantgrowers.com/Screenhouse.html 2 grand total your good for 6 years.

You want a translucent plastic, rather than a clear one. clar plastic can act as a lens and fry the plant leaves. transluscent diffuses the light resulting in lower leaf temperatures.

The "Husky" 6 mil has always worked great for me. Its been durable enough to withstand the beating of severe thunderstorm wind, hail, etc. I use staple gun to attach it to the outside of my mini-greenhouse. Sometimes the material lasts more than one year.

Remember you only need 50% of the sun to get 100% potential growth. My screen blocks 20% of the suns rays.Good on a hot day,bad on a cloudy day
