No need to disagree here...I´m just waiting for Pap and Ron to grow both the 2009 and 1623 in the same patch, that kind of direct comparison should give us some impressions of the real potential of those seeds.

Depends Jordan, the 1623 is now known to split, but besides that the two are very close when it comes to potential.

Dillenger, Bushwacker, Tahonta...have bucked off over 90% of riders. Cowboys that can find a way to 'just hold on' usually win big. If your looking to win these days you gota look to get bucked off too. 1623 might throw you before your 8 seconds is up, but man what a ride!:)

with regard to the 1623 and issues with possible splitting.

ron and i will grow two 1623 plants this year.he and i have had several conversations regarding the splitting issue.
of course we dont know what system or additives preceeded the splitting for growers so we are left to wonder? is it a genetic fault? or just being pushed to hard? quite possibly a bit of both? hard to tell.

here are a couple things we have considered to eleminate blossom end stress.not sure yet what we will do.

1. turn fruit when it is young to allow it to grow with the blossom cushioned by playwood,mill fabric and growing with blossom directly centered on the ground????( I SAY THIS BECAUSE THE 2009 HAD A FOLD OVER LIP THAT I BELIEVE HELPED KEEP THE 2009 BLOSSOM FROM STRESS AND ALSO RONS 1872 GREW OVER ON THE BLOSSOM-I BELIEVE THIS KEPT THE BLOSSOM AREA SUPPORTED)
2. allow several sides before the fruit to continue growing longer into the season as a buffer for the absorbing some of the energey.
3. keep soil evenly moist and fed but not over watered ( we have a new water/moister system for the soil this year)
4.feed/folier and disease control plant as always.

hey pap, when you say to turn the fruit centered on the ground , do you mean completely with the stem facing the sky ? or at 3oclock to make sure gravity makes the top part grow over the blossom end and not sink in ?

i reckon a grower tried it facing upward and it ended up very splattered and rotted from the bottom

So, to clarify for me, the stem is at around 2 O'Clock, facing slightly upward, and the blossom end is facing slightly down towards the ground, say at around 8 O'Clock?
