I'm a first timer for 2014,I've got my patch ready and soil test done and only space 900sq.ft. for one plant so I'm wondering if anybody could supply a top quality seed so at the least if I don't have much success I'll know for sure it wasn't the seeds genetics but my fault. My email is [email protected] THANKS in advance!!!

Well what are you looking for big and heavy or Orange and pretty. Asking for just seeds is like asking for a dog. That poodle is not going to be a very good bear dog.
Search 1048 Engel and let me know if you are interested

Size still counts for a lot of growers--but most non-growers like them Orange and pretty.

First year, 900 sq ft patch? I suggest you grow two plants.

450 a plant is pretty tight.I would plant one at each end let them grow to the center. If one is a lot more aggressive I would cull the other and let the one plant have 900 feet.If they both succeed you could do both.Just a thought.I dont know where you live but you could grow a plant on 700 feet & a melon on 200 feet.

Sad to admit...but Handy might be on the right track! LoL Where you live is a component on what style you want to grow!!! Southern, which is what I guess (biscuit is a Southern thing?, as is ridge?) will have prblms if crowded. JMHO Peace, Wayne

Although we've lost the AGGC database I can promise you there have been plenty of enormous pumpkins grown on 4 to 500 sq feet. I would plant opposite sides as handy said allowing yourself to bias one plants size over the others if one was a lot more aggressive. I prefer longer width secondaries to main depending on the shape of your garden. If a main runs out of room or you want to allow the other plant more area you can just train it 90 degreestowards the side of the patch and keep it growing.
