I think that we Californian growers should start up a club that can have monthly meeting to discuss what we plan to do for the month ahead and to also visit other growers patches during the year like a lot of the east coast growers do. This is just my oppinion and I think that this will further inprove Californias A game.

lots of experienced growers in california.most clubs are started because a group of growers seek more knowledge and understanding of the hobby and what it takes to be a success. i do believe though that some areas of california have many top shelf growers who by their own growing circles have everthig other formal clubs have --they just do it a bit differently.
if you want a club ashton? start one would be my advise.get one experienced grower to build around.
ps---there may not be any official club with cookouts and meetings but id guess dollars to donuts that for example the napa area grower do very well communucating with each other throughout the year.

Pap,
There may be a lot of experienced growers out there, but there are also a lot of growers that are disconnected. I for one only have 2 emails to other growers in california! Also, there is always more to learn and I think that mixing up the big growers and the little guys will only cause good, making the little guys into the big guys. I dont think i'm the only grower on here who wants to grow a 2000 lber.

Ashton, you've put forward a good idea...now do something about it...put together something and try and start a club yourself.
Most growers have jobs, businesses, children and homes to care for and I understand you are high school age...perhaps you might find some time to dedicate to putting a club together while some of the other guys...just dont have any extra time.

Hey Ashton, don't forget the Giant Pumpkin Grower's Forum in Elk Grove in the spring. It's what takes the place of a club meeting for most of us.

Why not just start the club, let it grow by itself, I'm sure it will over time grow!

We do not have an official club in california but we do have a California pumpkin grower meeting every year in elk grove in the spring. Over the years we have had speakers on soils, Fertilizers, soil testing. We had Al eaton and Don Young the years they were Champions. We collect seeds from California growers and trade with a few clubs in order to have TOP seeds for any California grower who attends the meeting. I am sure someday a CLUB will organize. In the meantime we have a great california pumpkin grower group.
