If you miss AGGC like I do, maybe send Mike a message to that effect. I was surprised to learn that only three people contacted him recently. I certainly didn't use all of the tools AGGC offered, but the ones I used were used often. neps@aggc.org I'm sure he would like to hear from supporters, with any luck he may choose to re-open this valuable site.

If it is dead, it is dead...support another genetics site. That does not limit who can participate. I understand the AGGC was a great tool, never agreed with the concept of controlling who has access and charging for it. When the data is shared

I do support other sites. PumpkinFanatic is great, lots of useful data. AGGC was around for 15 years and and simply has a vast knowledge base. It also offered a free option that allowed anyone to query any fruit to learn the lineage and offspring, about the same as the other genetic sites. Mike is to AGGC as Ken is to BP. It would be useful to have access to data on AGGC as well as the other sites. The individual can choose wherever he or she wants to go.

aggc ? kind of elitest Imho, open to all who want to pay is fine. but why the elitism? it is beyond me. So In my opinion not a great site to help new growers. I don't miss it but then I am not an HH am I?

Well let's see... for the year before AGGC went down there was a free option that allowed anyone to access data from fruit going back to 2006, pretty much like the other sites. For a fee you could access data going back to the 80's. One could also perform a number of queries that simply doesn't exist elsewhere. There lies the beauty, take the free option and query away, or, for a nominal fee you get the Cadillac package....Charlie Sheen voice.."Winning"

I miss the data that was available there would love to see the data back

I agree that the data available was priceless. But, with the AGGC being out of commission for the past couple of years and the weights having grown so much during that span without data input, just how much of its worth has suffered? Please bring it back Mike and open it up. You had a great thing going for the sake of the hobby and plenty of people willing to pay.

What we all need to remember is that Mike posted ahead of time that he was taking a year off. I hope that was all he needed to take off.

We need the aggc!

Maybe a team of growers could share the data-work.

Although I´m still a beginner in growing giant punpkins, the value of AGGC was obvious to me. It hasn´t been the only source for me choosing seeds and I never had full access, but I enjoyed checking out form, shape, colour and several growing data of quiet a lot of pumpkins.

It would be nice to see the restart of AGGC and I would be happy to pay a little fee for full access.

I´m sure there would be a lot of companies interested in advertising on a website like that too.

I used the basic free info from aggc, what I don't understand is how to become a member when it was running. I filled out a application twice, and never heard back from him. Unless you have to of grown over a certain weight as a personnel best, I don't know why I never heard back from him about my application to join.

Mike did a great job with AGGC but that is definitively the past.

It is not acceptable to have the site / database down a year - now it's the second year where no data can be entered - because his feels like that and therefore I would recommend to ask Ken if he could not host a database on bigpumpkins.com - most of the pics for the crosses are on this site anyway and therefore the disk size would not increase dramatically.

Water under the bridge. Donkin, since you are so good at everything you do and under the most extreme conditions, you should start a new site.

And that's how to end a message thread. Winter postings are ahead of schedule.

I think the pumpkin fanatic site is awesome. I used the AGGC site before and found it cumbersome and hard to use. Aside from having more data because it was around longer I really dont think it was any better than the fanatic site. Thats just my two cents though.
