Of course everyone would like to get their hands on a 2009 Wallace seed now but there are a number of other good seeds out there that I'm sure are getting overlooked. What ones didn't make it to the scale or have a story that would make you maybe take a look at it if you knew the whole story? For example, I know of a 1623 plant this last year that had a pumpkin that was on its way to being a new state record until in late August it went down to yellow vine disease. The pollinator for that pumpkin was 100lbs behind it when the 1623 went down but it went on to be the new state record. That is a pumpkin most growers wouldn't know about but the genetics are there for big performance next year. I also know of a number of clone crosses that were done this last year using cuttings from Ron's world record 1725 Harp plant. After seeing the performance of the 2009 Wallace, 220 Debacco and the 1623 Wallace this last year that 1725 Harp is the real deal in terms of genetics. It would stand to reason that some of these clone pollinations should/could be just as good. What other seeds are you aware of that are low on the radar but deserve to see dirt in 2014?

The 1570 Platte at 22% heavy. Joe has been growing some very HEAVY monsters these last few years and deserves recognition for it. I will plant it next year. (If I can get one.)

1092 Naylor 2011 (991 urena x 1725 harp). The 991 Urena that went 20% heavy was grown by Tyson Naylor crossed with a 1725 plant I grew that produced my 1097 that quit growing late august due to vine rot and sat for over a month before weigh off. Its the classic monster heavy x big shell cross.
It has produced well for Gene McMullen who grew a 1451 pounder last year at 6% heavy and 1318.4 pounds this year at 7% heavy. These are very nice pumpkins for Illinois' climate in 2 very tough growing years. It would be interesting to see what they would do elsewhere in more stable climates.. This Illinois cross is going in my number one honeyhole in 2014.
