I think I am going to cut my pumpkin today for the doylestown weighoff which is on Saturday. It is not putting on many inches, but has developed a skin split about 1/2 inch deep and 10 inches long across the blossom side. I am in it for the Howard dill award not weight. If I cut it now will the splitting definitely stop? This is my only entry this year I've never been in an all or nothing position. Thanks all.

This close, why gamble. I had one that was looking like it might split more so I cut 3/4 of all the vines off and a foot before the stem, I cut a wedge out of it. Why lose this close.

I cut it and put the comforter on it.

Put a bead of liquid nail or caulking over the crack (split), no joke it can help keep it longer, I' did it in 03 for my 1019 DMG pumpkin and it definitely helped preserve it longer until I could at least get it weighed. As long as it doesn't effect the orange beauty of the pumpkin for your award, you should be good.

I took my FP and cut it off the plant put it in the basement & put a fan on it.It dried out nicely waiting to go to a weigh off.I only ran the fan for 2 days.
