I'd like to hear how this seed did for everyone. I know weigh-off season is here, but I don't just want to see results of solid stuff only. I'd like to hear if anyone had a whopper going and lost it, experiences with the plant / etc.
This was my pick for THE SEED of 2013, but it's been very quiet so far. I lost mine to disease, but it was a nice plant. It did play quite hard to get in terms of putting out females.
Thanks.

We had trouble with pollinations, finally got one at 25 ft on July 15. It grew very slowly. We removed the pumpkin at about 450 lbs to make room for the other plants.

I grew a 1770. first female at 18 ft, had odd looking leaves some with bright yellow spots. It got a blossom end split day 63 that started on the outside and went in. I think I have some diary pictures of it. It weighed 1031lbs on day 63 and was 6% heavy to the new chart.

I grew the 1770 and it was the worse plant I ever grew since planting giant. The height of the leafs where only between 6-8 high. The leafs were only about a 1/4 the size of regular atlantic giant leafs. I finally got a pollination on it and after I did, the pumpkin was about the size of a basketball. Within a week it turned from yellow to dark orange and never grew any bigger. I ended up pulling the whole plant.

Paid a small fortune for the seed at an auction and it turned out sterile. The male flowers had no stamens and the females didn't develop.

Slow growing plant. Yellow points at the first 10 leafes but them everything ok. Smal leaves and tiny vines. No problems with pollination. Red Pumpkin with around 650 lbs.

My 1770 sounds the same as most, Yellowing on the leaves that never caused any problems. Not the biggest leaves but they are still there. Two pumpkins aborted untill the 3rd finally set about 80 days ago. Had a foamy stump that I tried to keep together but finally had to cut it off and lose 3-4 feet of the main plus the first two secondarys on his side, losing about 48 feet of those secondarys. Then the pumpkin started to threaten to split at the stem area but I cut into the stem and that fixed the problem. The pumpkin had a slope to it at first but as time goes on it seems to be filling out in the middle. The 1770 is on about day 80 I think and just plugs along, it was at 15-17 lbs steady all summer and now is settling at 7-9 lbs daily with the cold nights. I am very happy with it. It sure taught me alot this year thats for sure ! I thank Nana Rea for all the advice along the way. For me its a new personal best.

Chris, mine was nothing special to start with, just avergae compared to the others. The plant looked very haggered early on as it took some wind damage and I was initially dissapointed. However, the roots were 'everywhere' and I kept unearthing them by mistake. Yeah it had yellowing on the leaf tips, once before females were starting to produce and again around day 60 when new growth kicked in with females on the end. Whatever the yellowing was it seems superficial! Mine has been putting on steady gains, has beautifully smooth orange skin although its starting to pack most of its weight on the stem end so is not very syymetrical. Nice and wide and is crossed with the 1290. Have been impressed with the 1770, problem free and wull grow the 1770 x 1290 next year. Hope it goes heavy for me too. I think it will tape just shy of 900 lbs by the time I harvest it.

Same here...small yellow spotted leaves for the first 12' then NO female flowers. Set several pumpkins but never got bigger than a basketball. A true sterile plant for sure!

I'll post my story about the 1770 on www.pumpkinfantic.com. It should be a personal best for me if it weighs what it's taping.
