Would'nt it be a good idea to have a traditional interview after someone breaks the world record? How they did it, anything different? over 2300 pounds, I would like to know if he did anything different.

it was weighted today and yes it might not be an offical record but any decent grower would not make a problem of that. it was grown and there is the proof that it is possible to grow even bigger than 2009

I saw on FB it had a stem hole that made it a damage.

The rules are the rules. Its a great accomplishment but its not the world record.

300 more than the world record, not a record because of a small hole!

Guinness Book of World Records might classify it as a world record. But not by the GPC rules

It didn't had a stem hole, it was a blossem end split , you guys don't have to be jealous because you didn't grow it over there, you guys had the 1789 back in time and you never heard anyone complanining about it and it wasn't even weighted. you really think the the GPC is the only organisation that has the power to make it more offical? think twice and come out of that big bubble

It is the biggest pumpkin ever grown, BES or not.
An incredible accomplishment, made possible by the many growers before Beni Meier.
It is important to give credit where credit is due.
Congratulations, Beni!!!

Congrats on the GIANT. I think Guiness will accept as new world record, and that is what 99% of the world considers official.

ETM, calm down and quit being so hyper-defensive on all your posts. This is unchartered waters so there will always be questions. The 1789 was not a potential WR like the 2328. I believe Beni's pumpkin should be, but Guinness does not care what you or I think. Time will tell.

I agreed with you so not sure what "pack" you mean. Disagreeing are how things evolve, but when you call someone's opinion out as bullshit , you lose credit. I'm also not sure who "you guys" are that are so jealous. Had the pumpkin been grown in North America, there still would be questions. Have a good weekend.

This should be celebrated, not debated ETM. Nobody is trying to start anything. What Beni did is amazing and he himself said that he wants to share the info with everyone. Its a huge step in the pumpkin world and everybody wants to hear what he has to say. Nobody is jealous so don't be so negative. It's a world record no matter what.
Congrats Beni!

For God sakes if there was a hole through it into the cavity it's a damaged fruit. I had to disqualify Dale Marshall's 1723 two years ago and JD's 1289 this year for that very same reason. It's sad but that's how it is. The WR pumpkin is still the 2009 Wallace. It takes nothing away from Beni. But for God sakes don't start screwing around with the record books by knowingly apply for a title that ain't legit.

Sorry. I didn't intend to offend anyone by bringing the subject up. The fact is, Beni Grew a 2300+ pound pumpkin which is so mind boggling I still can't wrap my head around it. Very impressive and to be commended for sure.
I just always assumed it was a given that if your Pumpkin is damaged it doesn't count officially. Dale Marshall grew a 1723 but he doesn't claim to hold the Alaska State record. When Ron Wallace grew the freak I don't remember anyone referring to it as the Rhode Island State record. Whenever they were mentioned it was always with the damage caveat attached to them.
It seems to me that refering to this pumpkin as the world record is not consistant with the rules of the sport and the way things have always been done. Who grew the pumpkin and where it was grown is irrelevant to the discussion.

If NSA/CSS say that I had contact with Benni Meier and I would be that spook behind the theft of the WR in practice, I have to avoid him totally: I did not take Benni Meier´s seed, and he did never get more advice from me then every other grower in the world before my "bann for life" in this forum. amelio

I´ve nothing more to say, Richard. You remember, that some called me a spy with the aim to carry off the WR out of the USA...wasn´t it yours? I always said, that i do not want to grow for records with AGs, but you always wanted to dare me to do this sport too. I always said, that i want to hone edible pumkins with AGs. Only a vehicle AGs are for my work as a breeder of plants for fine food. I grew a tiny little edible pumpkin i named `SHenkin´ for Scott Henkin. Scott feels honored, but maybe he is not able to grow pumpkins this years. Richard, I beg you pardon for some strange words in early 2012. And i beg you: please grow this only 52 lbs. weighing pumplobster pumpkin for Scott, if he can´t do it himself in 2014. Mother fruit of SHenkin was an AG from Hoffman WY grown in WA last year. It was pollinated by a crown pumpkin and formed a really big crown. I think that the crown was forced by Aspergillus niger to grow such big. All of the seeds were lost by this fungus, but some were sent to me, and i cured the seed with food chemicals...and so the fruits did not develop a crown anymore. But the flesh of this pumpkin is good for crudités like this of the Australian crowns. Now the fruits are deep orange to red, and stored the become really red like a lobster in cooking water. Flesh is very thick, solid and nutty.
