Hi all, just wondering what seed would make a good cross with a 901 Hunt? From what I've seen, all of the 901's offspring have been really heavy to the chart. Should I self it and keep those heavy genes pure or cross pollinate? Won't be planting till mid September so I've got plenty of time to make a decision. I don't think there are too many 901 hunts left so sibbing isn't an option. Genetics are 1093.5 Hunt x 898 Knauss.
I was thinking a 1775 x 901 could be promising for large gains and heavy to the chart fruit... Not sure about the reverse though? I don't have a 1775 by the way ;)
Thanks for any and all replies!

Cheers and God bless,
Ben

1725harp or anything with 1725 harp in it. A seed request to the Wallaces, maybe they have a world record seed you can have!

The 901 does produce heavy pumpkins. I have one seed left & will consider growing it in 2014 & crossing it with the 1789 Wallace. Our 1789 this year was the fastest growing pumpkin that we've ever had or seen (est @ 1000# at the 1st week in Aug & growing over 30# per day), so I think it could be a very good cross. The 1775 also has big & heavy potential. Good luck with it Ben.

Most people know I LOVE the 901 Hunt seed and I have 2 or 3 left. I agree with Phil that the 1789 would make for a nice cross. I am also Very impressed with how the 1080 Hunt is doing as far as heavy goes. Maybe putting the 901 or 1080 back into each other may be an interesting option as well.
1725 Harp or 1789 Wallace would be the best choices in my opinion

My 901 Hunt many years ago went 23% heavy to the chart... the 1789 would be a fantaZtic cross... QuiZ give the WiZ a email...

Thank you all! I don't know if I could get a 1789 Wallace so maybe I could try and find a 1756 Lancaster? If anyone has either of these seeds and is willing to let me have a crack at them please drop and email: [email protected]
The 1756 could be worth a try since it went 17% heavy and the female was the 1789 Wallace!
