Could you ever make a living growing giant pumpkins and then selling them?

I don't think so....in my experience the potential buyers are so limited compared to selling jack o lanterns and squash. I have also found out people do not buy what they can not carry. The extra cash was always nice when one sold..but a lot sat in the field
Your money is in tomatoes..2.99 a pound

The local pumpkin patch here is littered with 150 pounders at the season with everything else sold out. They told me that the average family spends $300 on pumpkins with 40lbs being generally the larger size that sells. Lately the trend has been for ugly warted pumpkins and squash rather than for size.

You have to commit to growing the orange ones. Make a living? No way. Pay for expensive engagement ring? Yes.
