Thanks for all the replies. With a visit from a good friend to my patch, it seems very clear there is no deficiency of any kind as I had suspected. Everything points to a slow growing fruit unfortunately. But the fruit did do a slow up turn in growth from 13 lbs a day to 21 lbs a day between day 25 to day 28. Seems to have leveled off again. Numbers are waaaaaaay off of normal but we'll grow her out and see where she falls. Jim

Some 1161 Rodonis progeny have the characteristics of good growth for very long time (which might be better than very good growth for very limited time). Keep the plant healthy and you might end up with something like 1200-1400 lbs. So far, my best pumpkins had maximum daily gains of about 18-19 lbs and growth did slow down due to bloody cold temperatures in September (first frost mid September), but they still made it to 900+ pounders. Have some patience and there will be a good chance you might grow a new PB. (BTW, if you read my comment in your previous post, you can imagine that I sort of expected something like the increase in pumpkin growth you have observed during the last 3 days. If the plant happens to stay well-behaved and the pumpkin happens to stay sound for the next 2 months, then we will see if this prediction was too far away from reality.)
My best wishes.

Success isn't always measured by a PB. I figure with all the odds stacked against us, a weigh-able pumpkin at seasons end is a fine result. Look at all that can go wrong! If you have fun and something to show for it then you did better than quite a few growers.
