lost first two pollinated fruit this year. have a pumpkin the size of a small soccer ball and growing 18 ft down the main vine. What do you guys think is possible (weight wise) when pollinating so late?

I'm in the same situation but I lost my first three sets! I'm interested to see the replies. Did you have a tissue test done around pollination time?

A lot depends on the genetics, the grower, weather, 300-1,000 my guess or more.

People have pollinated in Aug and grown over 1K. So much depends on your plant health etc like Rich said.

Put a blanket(s) on the pumpkin at night, and day also, if it's cool in the daytime. Cold night time temps (<60 degrees) really slow growth down.
Weather is a big key. We had some funky weather here in Colorado the last 8-10 days (highs in 70's off and on) and everyone is reporting roller coaster gains around here. Pumpkins don't like big fluctuations in temperature very much.

Has anyone ever tried building localized green house like structures later in the season to keep the warmth in. I use blankets but wonder if its the plant swell that needs warmth

With that kind of root system let her grow and enjoy the ride.
