Ok, this is not my favorite post, but I got to throw it out there. I'm growing an 1140 Finders. Plant is healthy as a horse (about 800 sq foot), great soil that produces big fruit consistantly in my patch last few years, good right? My pumpkin is 24 days old and doing 13 lbs a day consistantly since day 18. It won't budge one pound up! I have never ever seen such poor growth in my many years growing. watering is great, etc. My question is, what the heck happened? :) lol I put a lot of work and effort into this plant. Can you ever get a total "dud" seed? Well, any comments would be appreciated. Feel free to check out my diary. Thanks, Jim

Yep, some seeds are a disappointment out of every seed stock. If they were all grown out the same year in the exact conditions there would be a bell curve on the results. You must of got one of them seeds on the left side of the curve-happens to everybody sooner or later.

1) Imagine it might be 10% heavy...makes it 14-15 lbs a day, you just can´t see it. 2) My 2012 best pumpkin off the 1723 Marshall made about 7-10 lbs a day between days 20 and 25. Suddenly, on day 28 it went up to 18 lbs a day and eventually became my 929.5 within 92 days of fruit growth (never thought that would happen). 3) Don´t expect a 1800+ from the very beginning, the better will be the surprise at the end of the season. 4) May your Team never lose the Faith!
My best wishes, don´t give up on that plant.

fruit does not look like it is aborting as for now. Chris, I wish I was sandbagging buddy! I don't need to this year lol. We'll see if she grows more or stops and aborts. Thanks for all of the replies.

I am in the same boat. I just can't get gains over 3 inches a day. Thought the soil was perfect, weather is perfect. I only get 4-5 hours of light, but that's the way it has always been here. I'm at 55CC on day 21, plus I'm on a side vine which usually start out faster. By late August due to the trees and the positioning of the sun, I will only get 2-3 hours of direct light a day so the pumpkin needs to grow now.

Obviously the plant is missing something. I strongly suggest you take a piece of a newly formed leaf & have a tissue test done on it. It will give you an idea on what your plant is missing. We do tissue tests 2x per year. Once just @ pollination & another in late july/early aug. The nutrients might be in the soil (according to soil test), but if they are tied up for some reason or another & aren't available to the plant, then you have a problem. Good luck.
