I have a couple questions. Is it true that you are not supposed to cover the main vine of my pumpkin plant? I have three plants and covered the main vine on only one and I have noticed a tremendous amount of growth. My second question is that I have one pumpkin that is probably the size of a softball. Should I be putting something under it to protect it? Thank you for your time and help. :)

I always cover mine except close to the stump. It pretty much gets uncovered on its own after a while from watering, wind etc. I don't like it buried for the whole season as I am afraid of stem rot. As far as the kin- if you wait another week it gets tougher to get something underneath.

I only bury the main at each leaf node.
