Its officially blown out. After having 2 females abort despite the most perfect plant ive had I found out why. Saw a section of wilted tertiary vine about 20in from the stump, went in to get it and found the main splayed open on 2 sides with rot. Found 2 more sections like this further down the main. It was buried shallow and I used root shield. saw several spots that opened with the grain last week that I treated and covered. I think it opened in multiple areas and rot got in.
My 1187 is fine and growing a nice pumpkin about 12 feet from the 1872 so I think this was a combination of a very aggressive plant that sucked up ALOT of water and blew out. We had multiple periods of consecutive days of saturating rain and cool nights.
uncover your mains and check them!!!!!!!!

I had a main rot on me 2 years ago and lost a nice 1233 Reiss.
Ditto your last line. Live and learn.
Maybe sand under the main is an answer. If it happens to me again, I will try that.

Unfortunately I'm not sure checking would have even helped me. The main seemed to be predisposed to splitting open with the grain possibly due to too much water uptake with nowhere to send it. Secondaries were still small and no pumpkin to fill up.
I now have about 25 separate 1872 plants as each secondary is heavily rooted with 3-4 branching tap roots and is self sufficient.

Could tendril or other parts be cut off when heavy rains to have a release for excess water?

Tendrils were all off. In comparing it to the 1187 whose stump is about 12 feet from the 1872 stump I think the difference is the aggressiveness of the plant. The 1872 has 3-4 tap roots/node that look like Christmas trees with all the branching. I don't think the main could handle the uptake. The main on the 1187 is 1/2 to 3/4 the size of the 1872 main. Subsequently it splayed open every 2-3 nodes probably as a pressure release.
I think ill chop off the main after the last section of rot and see if something will set late. still have the 1187.

the high heat ,rain and then this friggin humidity is an open invitation for multiple health issues. even with a great spray program you could be in trouble this summer. pap

Remove the excessive rain and I believe this plant would have produced 1600+ especially after what I saw when I just pulled 1/2 the plant about 15 minutes ago. Literally 3-4 roots per node all with 360 degrees of branching, essentially a giant sponge.
rot was spread though the vasculature of the main.tubules turned brown. the stump was completely rotted inside. I hit it heavily with tko, actinovate, microtech, actinovate and infuse.
this will be interesting to see what it can produce
