what are the bugs that are really good at hiding behind a stem leave or rock every time you look for them. they have sort of a pre-historic look with a hard shell. when you squash them they smell like a stink bug but are not quite the same?

i've seen these when eggs just hatcched. Thousands of them crawling on top of each other (similar to freshly hatched spiders) It looks like something out of a star wars movie!!
