My 1088 Nieuwenhoff is growing good and now has 10 foot main. Im doing a spider pattern with the secondaries and are out back 4 feet from stump. I want to go around outside of patch to till weeds abit. I know not to get too close to plant. Any ideas on how far out roots would be on this plant? Thanks

With a 17' main on my 1409,,,,,,,,,, i found roots 15' out from the stump and 10' away from the main! Crazy!
I couldn't believe it,,,,,,,, so be careful ;)

I would try and stay about 8 feet out of where the plant has been planted to be sure, depending on your soil, sandy or clay would make a difference! my plant is about 14 feet out and I hit roots out about 8 feet out behind the plant. I used a garden claw to loosen the soil. further out I used the tiller.

Do some test shoveling in the area you want to till.If that area has been moist those roots can be out as far as your longest secondaries 360 degrees from the stump.
