This year I have 1 plant that has been growing at a phenomenal rate and each secondary is throwing off 2 terts. In each direction at every single node. Should I nip these off when they are small and will that effect the rate of growth on those secondaries. Don't want to end up with a hot mess of vines but I don't want to hurt the normal growth either. Thanks. Erik

I like to pinch them off when they are small. If you let them grow it could be wasted energy that the plant could use some place else.

Exactly. Better to pinch when small then cut when larger.

Get rid of them as soon as you see them. Last year I was out of town 7 days at a time, then ended up with a woven mess .Especially when secondaries get longer. Leaving them too long is a waste of energy for you and the plant.

But don't dig into the tip for them. By doing so it's easy to transmit foliar disease to the young tip...and very easy to beat up the brand new leaves with tears / holes...without even knowing it. I like to leave them until they are maybe a little under an inch.

Really good bit advice Chris. Probably damaged some myself last year being overzealous and hunting for things to pinch off

Guess I shouldn't have said as soon as I see them.Sounds like I'm putting them under microscope.lol Lots of time once vine is laying down and getting ready to bury. Just don't miss them and let them get out 4 feet like I did last year.
