How malformed can a segment in the female blossom be before it's not worth keeping. If there are a large amount of seeds in the segment(s) those will be the last part of the fruit to develope and lead to cracking open later on.....Is it worth keeping at all, even if there are very few seeds visible?

You can set it and watch the symmetry of the blossum area as the pumpkin develops.Sometimes theres a hernia there sometimes its fine. Theres been a few big pumpkins grown with seeds in the blossum.

Chances are if its really bead, you won't even get the pumpkin t set. I had a plant last year that had seeds in every blossom but 2. Most of them were seriously deformed too. Couldn't get anything to set on the plant.

Here is a pic of some of the culls that I cut off after they aborted.

Peeled back the petals and I got a closer look at it. From the looks of things, the only place that there were any seeds at all well towards the bottom end of one segment. No evidence of any seeds elsewhere......So it doesn't look too seriously deformed. I like the idea of keeping for now and watching the symmetry of the fruit and see what it does. In a much older thread Pap did say it is a crap shoot. Good thing there's another female waiting down the vine at 18ft.....
