With a Woodchuck, place the trap over a hole being used. No bait and watch and see what happens.

trap and apples......;) if all else fails go with sub-sonic 22's, there the one's that the police use to take out porch lights before a raid, there quiet and effective.......

.22 shorts are inhumane, how could you do that..... go with a .17 caliber and aim for the head :)

A .22 caliber subsonic bullet is quieter than a paper bag popping and much quieter than a .22 short. It is also a quick and humane death.
A live trap leaves you with the choice of how handle the animal caught: kill it and bury it, or relocate it and make it someone else's problem.

I was being sarcastic peoples use a poison dart through a blow gun for all I care, but nothing is more satisfying then the results of a .17 :)

still trying. trapped a raccoon last night. tried the smoke bombs and the mother somehow got out. I still do not know how she got out by making a whole through 1 inch sized gravel. Ughhhhhhh. My 1495 Stelts is paying the price!

They are not intelligent animals - place trap close to hole with some type of walls going from hole directing them into trap - they walk right in (unless you have smarter woodchucks in CT than we do in NY)

Woodchucks always have at least two holes...smoke bomb will usually show you the locations of the holes.

I have seen the gasoline method work. You don,t want another to take over the hole. The smell keeps others away.
