I started some beets back in early December. The two best plants became a little pot bound and went to seed before I could get them in the ground. They have since been transplanted but keep going to seed. Will the beet continue to grow or is it done. The plants are growing well. Thanks for any replies.

in my experience they are done. Are these giant beets or just regular? Stress can send them to seed, but normally beet seeds come in the second year. I believe that if they get too cold it will send them to seed. But the beet root part is done. At least as far as I know. I often plant some in Sept or even Oct for some winter or early spring crop.

Beets are done if they go to seeds. They become non-edible as well. Beets are normally started in April or May (for October shows) and in my experience don't like transplanting much.

Yep, they're a biennial so once they switch over to flowering mode all their energy goes into that.

I was afraid of that, thanks for the replies. Six months for a single meal of beet greens, lol.
