Well, you can always learn something. I have set traps for years and I always put the bait inside the trap. Now I see that simply putting the trap over the bait would be a lot easier in most cases. Never tried jam, but I will now- what flavor? Thanks for posting that in your diary. Always learning. Now I have to go fix my traps. Mink racoons, cats, rats, rabbits and the occasional chicken.

I've always had to hang the bait inside the trap cause the squirrels were learning to walk on the insides of the trap and steal the bait. Squirrel or racoon would just push the trap out of the way to get the bait...

Glenn I'll stake it down with my concrete metal form stakes, or a big rock. Thankfully we don't have those big squirrels over here that you guys have to deal with on the mainland.

I've been using Grape Jelly for the Orioles. It turns out that Raccoons, squirrels, birds and Deer like grape jelly. I was in shock to find that I caught a cat.

I mix the bait with peanut butter and have great success catching veggie moochers(except for wascally wabbits).
