Bad luck is starting for 2013, my secondaries have been chewed off my 1381 by some rodent. Do they grow back at that spot or will I just have a main vine in that area?
Thanks

Sounds like a ground hog. If you don't remove it you will loose a lot more of your plant. Best way is to shoot them.

Feels like " Deja Vu " ;) I'm counting on you to redeem yourself after last year buddy!!!
Happen to me last year,,,,,,,,,,, I still don't know what is was.... There will be a third vine that comes off the secondary, I just trained it as if it were a secondary. Even if you pinched them all off,,, one will come:)
I want to see you smash that 2011 season you had!

Keep Live traps baited with cabbage around your patch. They love cabbage.

In the words of Paul F "dammit". I know I have a problem and I will take care of it, but do secondaries grow back chewed down to the main? Got a big fishing trip tomorrow and the plant is most likely gonna be compost. Thanks again for the replies.

I have never had a secondary grow back. Always just a bare spot for me.

Luke, look at my diary. This is my main taken off by a squirrel. A secondary took over and is now my main. I've been putting ground cayenne powder around my wind barrier and on the base of the tree next to my patch every other day. I even dust some on the main and secondarys. I have not seen a squirrel around my patch or had any more damage.

Known sum folks to put cheap feed corn cobs on trees near garden. On trees on nail holders.so the squirrels are fed good.

Luke... well that sucks. Sorry. Same happened to me last year and I still see that varmit every other day just spying out the patch waiting for another opportune time. I wish I could take him out with a 22. Since its early, hope the secondaries down the line become stronger.

Thanks guys. Yard, I think they are pretty big already since my neighbor feeds them and all the wildlife in the area. He even keeps stray cats around which I thought would help with the chipmunks, but there has to be at least 50 back there. Last year I set big rat traps as a last resort by the plants to at least scare them if they didn't get whacked, but can't do so this year cause of kids. The older one already rips down the chicken wire and runs into the patch every time I take my eye off him. lol
