For those of you who knew Paul, he passed away earlier this week. He was a great man, a great friend and truly one of the nicest men you would ever meet. A lot of what I know about growing giant pumpkins came from Paul. I will miss him!
Paul joined his wife, Jean who passed away 17 days earlier. Their service is scheduled for 12:30 pm on Friday May 24th at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Vancouver, WA.

Thank you all for your kind words, encouragement, thoughts and prayers. It is greatly appreciated. Besides growing pumpkins, the list of things that I learned from Dad goes on and on. He was a great Dad and I am very lucky to have had such great parents.

Very sorry Steve, and my sincere condolences to the Handy family. Paul was my Giant Pumpkin mentor, a great guy, and he gave me one of my first powerful seeds, (the 810Handy) back in 1999. I was able to grow a 1009 pounder from it in 2000. I still have all his letters.

Thank you all again for your stories, thoughts and prayers. Jim Sherwood reminded me the other day at the service that he was quite certain that Dad was the one that coined the phrase,"the b.s. stops when the tailgate drops". I think pumpkins were smaller back then. You can't hide them behind a tailgate anymore. Thanks don't say enough-but all I can offer.Thank you all!! Steve and Sheri

My condolences to Steve Handy and the family, Your dad was one of my first Giant Pumpkin Grower I had ever met in this crazy hobby/sport of ours. I will always remember his story of how he prefect the process of dehydrating that watermelon de proudly displayed as the Most Awesome / Wackiest Vegetable at the Hoffman's weigh-off .......Rest in Peace
