One of my plants has split the stem before the crown while laying down (Vertical split). It has shown no signs of slowing down. I have to make a decision whether to cull it, or keep it. Will this effect the plants growth later in the season?

While I did not get a record making monster, it still grow a good plant and a nice pumpkin on it.

My 1303 which ended up growing my 1450 last year had the same thing as did my 1789 which ended up growing an 1162 had the same problem. Cracks that run parallel with the main seem to heal over well if you keep an eye on them and keep them dry. I am assuming by your desciption it is running parallel to your main.

Sad but good post and inspiring replies. I had a plant get forced down by the storms that rolled thru and took the hoop house..never to see the hoop house again, lol.The 1143 Singelton too is doin fine growin crazy good..hope it heals also, Good luck Big Orange.

Yes. Its all healed. I was just wondering if anyone ever grew them out. Thanks for the help. I feel a bit more confident now. MN Fisher, I remember last year it was your 1789 that was very big, but unfortunately went lite. I have a decision to make. 1495 with horizontal healed split or 1789 without a split. Both are neck and neck...
