Is it better to add kelp the the soil or will a good liquid kelp drench to the entire patch work just as good.

I've always just done both Kenny. I was advised many years ago that the granular kelp, or the kelp you add yourself from the sea, takes longer to break down and therefore lasts longer and is slow release of its nutrients to the soil and be available to the plants. The liquid is more immediately available to the plant as a fine foliar and also is immediately available to the roots in the runoff. Also I think the liquid will leech away more quickly than the granular.

I agree Northshore, I live near the Ocean so getting seaweed isn't an issue, During the fall prep. I dump as much of it as I can get on the [patch and till it in. However during the summer I do use the liquid version that Mike mixes up for me. It seems to do the trick. This year I only have 2 plants running and hope to keep this going and not lose any like last year. I really need to step things up as I haven't had any fruits to take to the weigh offs in 2 years. I believe this is due to a calcium deficiency and leeching of my ammendments over the year. My patch seems to carry a lot of water during the year. I'm sure leeching occurs more then I'd care to know.
