Dear all,

I was wondering if someone could help me out with this. My plant has a 2-3 foot vine and roughly 7 leaves. My problem is, all of the leaves up to the 5th leaf didn't just grow nicely, but they where the healthiest leaves I've ever seen. Then at the 6th and 7th leaves the leaves started crumbling and collapsing as if they where in stress. The leaves seem to be a fairly darker color than normal. I am assuming this was caused by eather heat stress, too much nitrogen, or both. I have shaded, misted, and let up on the n. Am I doing the right thing? If not, what should I do? Thanks.

Home of happy lil plants

how much nitrogen have you been adding daily? or weekly?

Large large healthy leafs on those first few?

When you misted is it possible you steamed them?

post some pictures?

Im sure that would help some of these guys give you an immediate response.

Sorry, I can't post a pic right now because I have lost my memory chip adapter. I will try to find it or get a new one. I was adding Alaska fish once a week but I have stopped as of last week.I think it might have been caused by too much co2 when I experimented with co2 but I can't be sure. I am misting them manually right now as I am trying to find a water timer, but I try to mist between 3-6 on week days for 10-20 minutes/hour. During the weekend I start misting earlier at about 12-1 PM. Thanks for the help.

Ashton, it's probably garden gnomes. They've been known to sabotage AG growers. I bet they turned up your CO2. Too much will damage foliage and slow growth. good luck

Hey ashton, you prob have some leaf burn from those high temps cali's been getting.Cut back or stop the fish.Misting isnt the problem.Remember slow and steady wins the race.

My plants often look not so great early on, With the temperature fluctuations and the conditions in a hoophouse I try not to worry about puckered leaves or yellow spots or light green leaves. Once they are out of the hoops and growing, they will grow just fine.

it doesnt look like too big of a problem as long as there are holes in the bottom of that bucket. I might suggest a hose at the top and slowly drench it with warm pure water for about a week

Ok, thanks. I did have them in a greenhouse when they where smaller but now i've got a few vines growing and temps above 90 on most days, so i wouldnt really want to have them in a greenhouse, lol

PG, with out pics its almost impossable to give you a exact problem and all we can do is guess to your problem , so here is my guess....

sounds like to me since you said your temps have been in the 90's and your leaves are turning a darking color and also crumble it sounds like the leaves are getting sun burnt. Usually when a leaf gets sun burnt it will start getting burnt first out on the outside edges of the leaf , what will happen is you will notice it turning a darker green and starts to droop while the middle of the leaf still looks normal, then a day or two after that the leaf will start to turn brown and crumble. Is this what is happening??

Brooks, that is exactly what my plant seems to be doing except the leaves aren't completely turning Brown and dieing, instead it seems like the burning has stoped and the plant looks better. Thanks for the help.

Yea, the part of the leaf that gets burnt by the sun will get kinda soggy, darker green and droop, and then a few days later that part of the leaf will die, while the rest of the leaf looks fine. ( I use regular scissor and just cut the bad parts of that burnt leaf off while leaving the healthy part of the leaf on.)

Keep em shaded Ashton, espically the new growth out on the end of the main vine.
