Wondering if there is anybody out there that has any bee colonies, either commercially or just hobby/backyard hives. My brother & I started a small apiary last year/this spring and currently have 18 colonies of Carniolans, hope to double that by next year. 12 Langstroth and 6 top bar hive. Anyone else? If so, how long have you been a beekeep, what type honey bees & hives, honey flow, ect....?
Side note:Incredible little creatures...PLEASE everyone "bee" mindful & informed of the chemicals you use & their effect on this most important insect!

Should have read the post better. Langstroth deep hive bodies with Illinois supers. Got my first hive in 1972. Always been small time keeper with no more than 25 stands. Have run a few 2 queen colonies 10-15 years ago. Took a class from Sue Coby when she was at Ohio State on queen rearing. Raised my own for several years.

Three years. Four top bar hives. Carniolan, Italian and wild swarms. Last year was tough. This year looks to start slow but heavy.

I've got 2 hives on our property. As a side note, I didn't know spinosad was harmful to bee populations until last year, so now I only recommend it for indoor gardens.
