A few years ago late in the season a vine grew out of the patch and across the lawn and into the lake. It grew out over a lily pad patch. I didn't pay much attention to it untill fall when I found a 125lbs pumpkin growing in the water. I went out with the canoe and floated it to the boat landing. Funny looking pumpkin but it made it into my Halloween display.

Probably, The keyboard commando's will be at it.
I don't know about the gravity thing but they grow good in lake water.

One year I put some pumpkins i didn't want in the woods next to the house and the next fall I found some Sugar Pies hanging in a tree. They grow good in trees too!!!

One year I grew one in a vacuum chamber. That sure worked well too, the OTT was 546" but it collapsed under its own weight when it was extracted from the chamber, oh well..... Now officially unofficially the 3217 DMG UOW Linford 12'. The seeds float in the air like butterflies as well

Old timer round here dun told me several times bout when he found pumpkins in a tree growing.the stems& vines will stenghten if stressed to hold them up. but water simulates partial weightlessness with the top half of the pumpkin forceing down on bottom causing it not to grow as much as top.probli why they look like blobs. Water mite push up on bottom helping it grow.top half will press down as usual.so water making bottom go up gravity makes top grow down.sides push out.wouldnt mind trying to find out

Yardman, That is the way the one that grew in the lake looked like. Small around where it was under water and larger around where it was above the water. Kinda looked like a mushroom with the bottom part of the pumpkin being the mushroom stem.

Just to simple for some of the technical types. If they can't find it in their how to grow book they don't understand.

Cool!! Iceberg pumpkins 10% above 80% bellow. Sounds like fun. Normal is boring. There wouldn't be a 2009 pound pumpkin if everyone was normal.

North Shore Boyz, How right you are, it was unusual. I took pictures of it. Don't have a clue how to post them. I think I would need a scanner. Post a mailing address and I'll mail you a copy and maybe you could post it. To technical for me.

Can't believe there is so much skepticism about a pumpkin growing in a lake. A lot of stranger things have happend. Don't any of you listen to Coast to Coast??? I do believe in spooks, I do, I do, I do.
