Last year I used row crop cover on a plastic PCV pipe frame. First time in years vine boring moths didn't get to the pumpkin plants. Problem with them is solved.

Sounds great unless you have them already. If I did that, I would have 20,000 of them caught under the cover by August since they are in the ground just waiting to hatch.

Had them for years. A 500,000 BTU propane blowtorch and a rake took care of that problem also.

Squash bug that must have killed all the other biology in the soil too how did the pumpkins grow since then?

It grew great. Must be alot of as you say biology deeper in the soil that survived.

That's how I do it, Squash Bug (the row cover that is, not the jet engine torch, lol). It's a great feeling knowing that you will never have to spray or lose any sleep over insects again.
