It seems winter is still here for many BP.com growers. What is your plan for seed starting/planting out? Here's some options that I see:
1. Start seeds at the normal time, and hope for a quick and dramatic change in weather(for the better).
2. Start seeds at the normal time, and plant in a larger pot, so you don't have to rush to plant it out.
3. Start seeds later.
I'm guessing we got 7-8" of heavy/wet snow here, this morning. I looked at a 10 day forecast for my area, and it doesn't show any dramatic warm-up in that period(hopefully it's wrong lol). So I'm thinking right now, that I'll be starting seeds later, and maybe in a bigger pot as well. I just hope planting out won't be extremely late for me.

I watch and listen to the oldtimer farmers around us here. They are mostly saying start my seeds now because they are thinkin here in midwest Illinois the ground will favor planting starting in the next two weeks. They are saying it will get warm soon and stay warm BAM!! I started all my seeds yesterday..time will tell and like you've mentioned in #2 I'm transferring germed seeds into larger pots. We,ve had two Huge Indian Sunsets now, Very Blinding purple in color and that means plantin time. Somethin about the jetstreams angle blah blah blah..but it works. Tomatoes are in the ground.

No change because I use hoophouses, but it's been chilly. We have not had a 70 degree day yet.

No options here. Tarps are down keeping planting sites dry. Hoops up by the 25th. Plants in by the 5th of May.

Two years ago I started plant April 20. The weather stayed cold for three weeks,so I kept kin inside. That is a big mistake. The kin just does not climatize as well at that age. I would advise that you put kin outside by ten days max reguardless of the weather outside. It may stall out but at least it won't die!!!

I just put the plastic on my greenhouses a couple days ago. I peeked in yesterday and there is still at least 2 feet of snow in them. Hopefully it will melt quick in there but it looks like it will be a late start for me. Once they are started, I might have to put plants into bigger pots but would rather not. I am just going to hope for some sun to get me back on track.

I have had good luck planting in 5 inch peat pots then up potting to 7 gallon grow bags to delay patch planting by a couple weeks. 10 days max in 5 inch peat pot and only another 20 days in the 7 gallon grow bag, but it buys you three weeks.

Started my A.G seeds indoors a month ago and moved them outside into pre composted ground and in already 80F weather ! AND THEN 3 days of cold and wet weather came - I covered them up in a plastic cover and have peaked underneath at the already 20cm leaf spanned leaves and they have a bit of DOWNY MILDEW. So i've sprayed them with a mix of milk and soda and a drop of washing up liquid and am planning to treat them with "Seranade" organic spray. My question is: If I were to remove the infective leaves (there are only about 4 big leaves) and then start spraying with seranade (which is more a prevention remidee) will this harm my so wanted giant pumpkin possibility?
