I have got several moles on property,& in patch ! So from what iv been researching they are hard to get rid of , I have tried the spike type trap-with no success ! They never seem to go threw the same tunnel ! But i have used the caster oil thing from home depot in the past , It seemed to make them move away ! But my question is that oil bad for our patch's ? I think it must not be to bad as it is made for soil -But in our pumpkin patch's we have everything at a optimum levels ! Question is is caster oil OK for use on our pumpkin patch's ? Thanks in advance !!! Glenn

Don't know on the ol. But I do know that even though moles can wreak havoc, they are an indicator that all is well with your soil. It means that you have worms and that the worms have ample food supply.
Set your spike traps on the tunnels that travel 30 ft or more in a straight line. Those are their main trunk tunnels and get used frequently.
We have a pest control guy in the area with a couple of trained wire-haired terriers. They can totally rid a yard of moles within minutes with the only collateral damage being some dig holes.

castor oil is fine for the patch. Used it in the past many times with success.

I've never tried castor oil. I've tried bait and just about everything you could think of. The only thing I have had success with are the traps that are placed in the tunnel. Two cinch traps are great, one in each direction. I ain't happy until I see a carcass.....

Are you sure they are moles? We have pocket gophers here. Moles eat worms, pocket gophers are strictly herbivores and eat mostly roots. I set two traps tonight. We will have to see how it goes. Where do you buy the caster oil?

Thanks guys for responses ! Yes they are moles ,I can get gophers almost every time i see one ! But moles are different story ! The caster oil made for moles is- a hose end spray bottle from home depot ! I don't know if there's any difference in oils from different sources there's some at drug stores but not any cheaper though ,,Some on internet a bit cheaper ! & yes that bottle from home depot says 10,000 sq ft - but i got less than 2,000 out of it (TOO) -& i moved fast ,NOT POSSIBLE !

Hi Fish! ... ive tried everything under the sun for moles from old home remedies like chewing gum, wind gadgets that make noise to vibrate the ground to the fancy traps like the sonar gadgets to poisons, and the best thing I have found to get rid of moles is trapping them. Traps might take a while to kill them all,but sooner or later you will have a mole free patch/ yard if your persistent. Just my 2 cents worth.

I have moles for the first time ever this spring. Yesterday I bought a Tomcat mole trap at Lowes and set it on a tunnel that went straight for my patch. I didn't think it would work but today it was sprung and a mole was caught. I reset it on another tunnel tonight.

Another inexpensive method of mole removal is by using a standard, spring type mouse trap. Bait with a bit of peanut butter, set the trap near one of the exit holes you find in the burrow, and set an overturned bucket on top (this prevents pets, kids, weather and anything else out). You may also need to set a brick, rock, etc on top of the bucket in case of high winds or nosey critters. Reset also after nabbing one.....there are usually more using the same tunnel.

Yes Fish , i have that one also, but the best one that worked for me is the kind that fit down in the tunnel , oh, dont be affraid to reset your trap in the same tunnel you caught ur first mole in because ive caught up to 4 moles in two days from the same place I killed the first one. I learned ( on youtube I think?) the best place to set your taps is on the tunnels that go straight ahead for a long distance,, try not to set your trap where the tunnels go in every direction, or cris cross thats near the top of the surface, these are just their feeding tunnels and they dont go back to them tunnels as much. But look on youtube about trapping moles Fish, there is alot of good information there.

Soupster ! Are you talking about moles or gophers? If you are talking about moles- im thinking where is exit holes ? I never seen a hole threw to surface ! maybe there is & i just haven't seen one ? these tunnels are like 1 inch diameter .not like gophers 2 -2.5 inch !
