A whole lot of Colorado growers DO NOT WANT to be involved with the GPC or any other association any more. The good old boy system will die here in Colorado and we as big growers will all quit until it does simmer down within legitimate honest folks and grow on our own terms without any weighoff attendance or interference from indivudals out for self gain especially the good old boy system. I have grown here for over 17 years and quit due to no fun and the good ol boy system. Many here agree with me. It is not fun any more. But it could be again...One day or tomorrow... Thank you for all who listen...

I'm not going to express an opinion either way, because I don't know what this relates to, but I'd just like to point something out. A couple times a year we see some post similar to this one.
It's always made by an anonymous grower. If you have such strong words, put your name behind it. Jim Gerhardt

I'm not sure what the good old boy system is? Maybe you could explain it to me. If you have attended the GPC seminars or conventions, it's mostly all about education. Phil

My thought is "you are responsible for your own moral". If other people are getting you down, then you have lost focus of the priority. You can make anything as good as you want it to be. If others are in your way of enjoying this or being successful, find another way to have fun with it. Do things because you want to and you love it. My good ole boys club consists of people who love and care for me. If you are not in that club, then you cannot get me down. Keep things is perspective. Life is too short. Let the fun begin.

Scott, those last 3 sentences couldn't be more true. Bear with me here for an example:
Last week I was put in charge of my 18 month old and he was sick with the "shits". As I was getting pissed off and hating life, I pondered on how I know 40 years from now I would love to get a moment like that back. It's the little things like a Robin showing up in February, a bent leaf growin towards the sun, or a well impregnated Fiber One turd getting clogged in the toilet.
LOL, GPC or not, enjoy growing!

Come on Porkchop, my point is don't fret over the little things. Yes, Porkchop, I will remember the better moments, but bad ones like that in the present won't seem so bad 40 years from now if my internal Timex is still tickin.

After my first 17 years of growing giants, I was frustrated, and wasn't having fun. I stopped for a year or two, to re- focus! 2013 marks 45 years since I grew my first giant. 2012 was one of the funnest years of growing that I've ever known, in spite of just one " good old boy " who would have tried to ruin my enjoyment if he could have. The " sour grapes " people we meet in life will only ruin the fun of our chosen hobby if we let them! I hope to be growing giants ( and still be having great fun at it! ) until I'm at least as old as my good friend Pete Glasier!

I am always amazed and saddened when someone expresses their opinion here and they immediately get jumped on! I agree dirty laundry is best kept at home but there a number of opinions shared on this site, some good and some maybe not. Seems to me as soon as someone mentions the initials GPC and it is not in a positive light, they are immediately frowned on. Last time I checked I believe we are all part of a passionate vegetable growing community. And if I where a GPC representative I would want to hear the thoughts and suggestions of all of our members whether good or bad. And the rest of us can certainly pose contrary views to anything posted. But lets not have a forum that discourages all views. John Young Past Vermont President Grower for 17 years. [email protected]

He stated his view, then others expressed their view. Looks like a prefect working forum. So if you appreciate the GPC you should keep your mouth shut. Then there should of been no responses unless you agree?

John, maybe if they would actually post their name and not hide behind an alias, there wouldn't be such a response. I personally think all views should be posted, but not by somebody hiding. If your man (or woman) enough to make the post, then post your real name. If your not man enough to sign it, then obviously you shouldn't post.

So having a level and fair playing field worldwide is bad. The more exposure the GPC can bring to giant pumpkin growing, is a good thing I thought. Sure the GPC is not perfect, nothing is, but it does far more good than harm. To me it sounds like the pimp just wants a good ol boy system. Ron Root

I do not know who pumpkinpimp is and I would have done the post differently if it was my complaint. I also do not have an understanding of what his disagreement is with the Colorado folks. Again though it is my observation that whenever anyone criticizes the GPC they are thrown to the wolves immediately. I am really hoping that this hobby that I love is not going to an us vs. them. I don't have a side in this conversation because I have no idea what happened to start this post, and I question all who are criticizing pumpkinpimp who do not know the facts either! John Young

Pumpkinpimp is right! They are having big problems. They are afraid of becoming black balled. There is a couple of bad seeds in CO. Its hurting, and going to hurt the good name of the GPC. There needs to be a confidential investigation. To protect the identity of the insentient. (pumpkinpimp). When someone gets on BP and complains. It will set off a downward spiral. (unless its the government). But this is a cry for help!
If you have friends in CO. contact them. Love them. be a safe place for them to talk.
