I'm going to be talking with a nearby Native American casino soon about sponsorship for a weigh-off. It would be real nice if I could give a few examples of other casinos sponsoring weigh-offs in the past.

If anyone knows of a current or past casino sponsor, please drop their name here so I can use it to try and convince this business to support us.

Thanks. Lee.

would kinda think that a few things are going against a casino holding a giant pumpkin weigh-off.
1. target audience? to may kids-kids cant gamble
2. would need to be held inside because? no one gambles in the parking lot.to easy to leave once the event is over.
3. a liability for the casino what with all the transporting and personell involved during the weigh-off.
4.what might work is a casino sponsoring your off site weigh-off with two to three of the top pumpkins being paid for ( with casino sponsorship money)and later displayed at the casino.

Silly Seeds

Port Elgin, Ontario, Canada

Up here at Port Elgin Pumpkinfest we have OLG (Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commission - who is the overseeing body of all Ontario Casinos) as a GOLD Sponsor. Because of Pap's first point they choose to sponsor the carshow aspect of the festival due to their main target demographic, although they do set up their booth in the weigh-off tent and not downtown at the car show because that is where they will receive the most press coverage. Their stated reason for sponsoring is the good-will displayed to community events and not to necessarily generate business. They do not engage the festival audience in any gambling activities during the event but rather promote their "giving-back" of dollars generated from their business activities. Because the OLG is government run it is necessary for them to contribute to the communities they serve. There is a whole other "arm" of this government run revenue maker called the "Trillium Foundation" which grants monies to many different community projects including the building of hospitals, community centres etc. They are running a television advertising campaign right now boasting of more than 35$ Million dollars given to Ontario communities over the last 10 years.

Many National Level fishing tournament Weigh-ins are held at Casinos. They actually love events that draw people of all ages, even if it is only to their parking lot. I am personally not a big fan of casino's but they would be a very good option for someone looking to grow a weigh-off or establish a new one. They have been more than willing in the past to spend money on anything that draws in people. They have even paid for kids fishing clinics and large tents to be set up in their parking lots in the past to accomodate events like this. Certainly an option worth exploring.

Thanks Jim. We are looking at the casinos in the Skagit Valley area to try and get the weigh-off in Mt. Vernon a bigger purse. Captain, if you have any suggestions or ideas, you can let me know at [email protected] Thanks.

For Casinos, I was going to Suggest Tulalip because it seems to have the most cashflow and has seems to be well situated for public access. The Swinomish and the Skagit are kind of isolated destination points where Tulalip is in more of a population center. I don't know if you want to go that far South though. You might want to check and see if Skagit Farmers supply is interested in being a sponsor. I had them display my Pumpkin at their Stanwood store a couple years ago. They may be willing to throw in some more prize money if they got to display the winner.

Thanks Captain. Skagit was a sponsor last year and we hope to get them on board this year again. I will try the smaller casinos because they are closer, if no luck then I might shoot for Tulalip.
