The title just about says it. I am trying to form my own pruning method based off of the christmas tree method. It would help to know how many sides there are on average on a plant with a 25 foot main. Thanks!

You have grown AGs before, you will have noticed that the secondaries emerge from the leaf nodes, which, depending on the individual growth of the plants, are about 3/4 ft (sometimes less, sometimes more) from one another.

Here is a pattern I came up with that I have been wanting to try for a couple years now, but timing and luck has to be on your side to get a pumpkin set on a secondary off the middle of a main vine.

Im not sure how well this pattern would work but its something diffrent that might be worth a try.

Ashton, With a 25 footer you will probably end up with around somewhere between 14-18 vines on each side. depending on how fast your plant is growing. Slower growing plants will have less space between the vines.

Brooks,
what benefits are you hoping to achieve with that pattern?

ok, thanks guys. I am pretty much using this pattern so that I can fit as many leaves into a small area (i.e. my 300 and 500 ft 2 patches) Thad seems to have been doing this according to his website and he seems to be having success with it. If you would like to see my pruining method it should be uploaded onto my diary by now. I would appriciate comets on my pruning pattern. Thanks!

Ashton, with your limited space, I would suggest trying to grow (at least 1 plant) using the flag pattern.

Your diary design looks very difficult and complicated and would be next to impossible in a small space like yours.

Keep the pattern simple Ashton. What looks doable on paper isn't always possible in the patch

Hi Captan! Well, a bigger pumpkin of course! Lol,
Id just like to see how a pattern like that would work out Capt, if I could get the pumpkin to become the main sink in a pattern like this, then I think it would do pretty good. Also , to just try something diffrent for a pattern for a change then growing the same old Christmas tree pattern like i been doing for the last 10 years.
Only thing about a pattern like the one ,I think, would be the timing and starting the plant a week or so early, I think alot of Luck trying to grow most of the main vine and secondaries before I pollinate my pumpkin would be a big factor, and all trying to do this before July 1st pollination to atleast having a chance at the pumpkin being able tob grow over 100 days before it gets to cold and stops growing.
