I am connecting plastic 55 gallon barrels.I have cut the tops off and going to drill one hole 2'' up from the bottom of each barrel. I am looking for a good fitting that goes through the barrel. I can make rubber washers if I need to but I haven't come across a good fitting yet. Then I'll use a short flexible hose for between the barrels.
Another question: With the gravity tower height at 7'-10'(barrels ht. 3') The ten barrel tower is in the top corner of a 75' X 55' patch. The far corner is 2' elevation drop. I plan on using a 3/4" header line(75') with 5/8 X 12 X .45 drip tape every 18" along the header(55'long). Is my psi going to be around 9 average and will this be ok? Am I going to be ok with the drip tape hole punch size of .45 or should I use a smaller .22 drip tape? I plant on adding ferts, etc and I don't want to have clog issues. Thanks for any ideas,Hank

You need a good bulkhead fitting. Most of the poly tank manufacturers use something like the banjo brand poly fitting. http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/bulkhead-fittings/fittings/plumbing/ecatalog/N-a7x?op=search&sst=subset

The drip system I use is regulated to 10 PSI. If you are sure that your system will deliver 9 PSI, go for it. I also prefer the slower drip, so .22 would be my pick. But then again, I don't reuse drip tape from year-to-year due to clogging by minerals in well water. Your soil type will determine the spacing of your tape sections and the amount of water you apply daily AND should be the deciding factor as to which hole size to use. I take it you don't have a well?

Thanks everyone! The bulkhead fittings are exactly what I was looking for.
I do have a spicot(sp)at the barn area approx 150' from the patch. I was wanting to catch some rain water of my small barn and hoghouse to keep the pressure off the well. I also like the idea of not using cold well water. I am going to(possibly) put a float devise(a top mount cattle waterer) on the barrel contraption to keep it full. When there are storms forecast I wont fill em all the way.Just something else Pumpkin to figure out and dial in. lol
Its great to have this site and the helpful people on it Thanks,Hank
