dont mean to let you down but a good seed looks like a good seed,,a bad seed looks like a bad seed.. seeds have no resemblance to the pumpkin it came from,,,"why do you think you got had"?

The seed was in the orignal package but the package was opened and then re-stapled. The seed is a small seed with a small white tip. Just looking for someone else that has a 1495 to let me know what their seed looks like.

Thank you!!!

If in doubt ask more questions.....that is why auctions only use seeds from the growers themselves, or trustes sources with a paper trail

All 1495 seeds are extremely small. Not sure if your seed is from auction or not, but just to add some perspective.... Dave stelts sent our club 3 1495 stelts for auction back in 2012. All 3 came in the same Manila coin envelope. So unless we were going to auction off 1 lot containing all 3 seeds, which would be nuts, we had to open the package. Two buyers end up with repackaged seeds and the third gets the original, but clearly opened package. I am certain that this practice is not unique to my club there's just no way around it.

Be very careful trading seeds. If there is any reason you doubt the seed is authentic I wouldnt grow it, no matter how bad you may of gotten burned.

Orangeneck,

The practice is not unique to your club.

And yes, the 1495 is a puny looking little seed.

Be cautious when swapping seeds,,,always know who you are trading with,,,

If you buy at a club auction most guarantee they're the real deal. Too many high $$ seeds to just take someone's word for it.

I think a person would have to be a low down, slimy snake in the grass to screw a fellow grower over a seed. With everything else that can go wrong during the course of a season, I can't imagine how awful that would be. And chances are high that you'd never have a CLUE that you'd been stiffed.

But I am not so naive as to think it wouldn't, and hasn't happened.

i agree with you. ron and i have been giving and receiving seeds for well over 20 years. we know what we send out and only accept seeds from a few of our growing friends.

its a shame but there will always be a small percentage of crumb/bums that are willing to give the hobby a black eye.

in most all cases though an auction and/or request to the original grower is a much better way to be reasonably assured that the seed is legit because in just about all cases the seeds originated from the grower.

promo seed packages are also an excellent way to purchase a bunch of legit seeds as growers support the promos with their own seeds direct from grower to club promo to buyers.

when you trade with individual growers you do not really know?, you really roll the dice.better off to do this only with friends or clubs with a good reputation.

1495 is small brown seed that seems to be weakly filled. 1161 rodonis is even smaller white seed thats plump.

For our Vermont auction we have come across the same problem with multiple seeds in same envelope or sometimes a grower will include all of the year's crosses in the same envelope. I do take the seed out of the envelope but then will photo copy the original envelope and explain to the winner why it is not in the original packaging. I agree with above posts that integrity is the only thing we have and we need to do our best to ensure confidence that the grower is getting what they paid for.

sorry ,is it white type skin with a little dirty brown(or clean white)-now I'm going to have to open my last one.I donated one for rmgvg auction that I didnt peek at(didnt want to break the seal).Last time I looked at one was 2011.When I was doing gpc club seeds- dave s. would bulk a lot of his seeds.I sent those out in hand written envelopes. At some point along the way there has to be some trust/good faith.

Dear Big Orange
The seed that you bought from the Wisconsin Giant Pumpkin Grower Auction was personally given to us from Dave and Carol Stelts. There was a number of seeds in the envelope. We took out the other seeds and gave you the original envelope. The writing on the envelope was the number of seeds in the envelope. We can not grow that many so we decided to donate one of them to our club's seed auction.

Thank You for purchasing seeds from our auction.

I could go thru my seed collection and find a dozen that could easily be passed off as a 1495. I think if you buy or trade a seed, you have to do it with confidence. Anyone pulling a seed scam is gonna do the exact thing I mentioned above, so comparing pictures is a waste of time.
I think your fear of being scammed is unjustified. 99.99999% of the growers are ethical and would never consider a "bait and switch".
Unless you are the one that stuck your hand in that 1495 pumpkin and pulled out a seed, you will never know for sure. Have a bit of faith.
