Check out our auction Sunday evening, and get a history lesson at the same time! I'm hoping someone out there with expertise regarding Ga3 will have some fun waking up some of my seeds that have been snoozing in the seed vault for 33 years!

If getting on board H.G. Wells time machine and travelling backwards in time to play with 1980's giant pumpkin genetics is not your thing, then how about fast-forwarding the time machine, so as to essentially skip a year, genetically speaking! Thanks to Mark Shymanski, and his greenhouse efforts in winter of 2011/2012, that's exactly what my 1149 Todd has in it. He pollinated his 1807 Stelts with the 1647 Wallace on approx. Christmas Day 2011. How else would you get the 1807 Stelts, and the 1647 Wallace both into this package? ( Granted, you down under guys could have done this too!) That's why I'm excited about my 1149, and am offering it in our Northern Colorado Weigh off. It has 1535.5 Glasier, 1385 Jutras, 901 Hunt, 1810 Stevens, 1807 Stelts, and 1647 Wallace in it's immediate background. You won't find it in any other auction! The 1149, as far as I know, is the only pumpkin in our climate which had a few days of growth in excess of 45 lbs. a day!

Not a bad guess at all, Cheddah. I'll bet Howard would have liked that guess!

Okay Cheddah. When Howard Dill sent me seeds for the 1984 season, he didn't tell me the weight of this one, but when I talked to him, he said it was a really big, long pumpkin, and he really liked it a lot! That's all I needed to know! I always referred to that fabulous plant as my B.L.O. plant. The B.L.O. grew a 424 lb. new state record for me in 1984. But, in addition to the 424, there were 12-(yes, twelve!) other pumpkins on the B.L.O. plant. I set a decent pumpkin on just about every single side vine. There were at least 4 or 5 pumpkins that were between 175 to 300 lbs. each, then a few more that were 100 to 150 lbs., and the smallest one was a perfect siamese, with two separate seed cavities. It weighed 115 lbs. The total weight of all 13 pumpkins on this crazy plant was between 2300 and 2400 lbs. As you may have already guessed, I wasn't very educated on proper pruning techniques in 1984!
