Wi

I've been lurking lately, but this is getting on my nerves a bit.

Here it is straight up. Unless you are one of the GPC directors or unless your name is Joe, Christy, Nick, Chris, Jim, Kelsey, Ron, Pap, and maybe a few close friends of those on that list (and maybe a few of the NYBC attendees).....

You really have no idea how much of their heart the GPC directors pour into this hobby. And in my experience you double that or maybe x10 that for Dave. And I'm truely not trying to disclude the masses without the understanding that yes most know the GPC is great and does great things. The point is you simply cannot comprehend the level the GPC works at until you've been where those on the list have been. I wish everyone could get that chance!

Until I had the chance to deal with Dave on a personal level I had no way of knowing how much the GPC really does. An organization is only as good as the work put into it and the work Dave and staff put into this hobby is crazy. How Dave has time to grow I have no idea.

So those doing the poking and prodding need to BACK OFF. Dave could quite possibly be the best thing that ever happened to the GPC or giant pumpkin growing period. When (not if) Dave is nominated for the GPC hall of fame he may as well be nominated alone (surely those nominated with Dave will agree).

So there you have it from someone that's got a glimpse of the inside. There's really no sense throwing stones if you don't know your target.

And to me Dave is now much more to me than a GPC President or Heavy Hitter. He's a great friend.

Have a great day and great new year.

Sincerely yours,

Chris "has been" Stevens

Thanks Chris, we don’t get that many slaps on the back compared with derogatory mails. All of the board spend hours and I mean hours every week, so god knows how many Dave spends

Well said Chris...

..... you lurking has been. Lol. Thanks Dave and all GPC reps, weigh off coordinators, Ken D. and all those who work countless hours for the betterment of growing giant pumpkins. I know what its like on the small scale of helping to make our local event to be the best it can be. You will never please everyone...that is for certain. I cant even imagine organizing on a world scale. My hats off to Dave and all the GPC folks for a great 2012 and looking forward to 2013!!!!!!!

Jeff "wants to be" Shenoha....also a lurker too....lol.

Nicely said Chris! I know I'm very grateful for the work of the directors. They should know that the vast majority of growers appreciate all the work they do. This hobby would be nothing without them. Give yourselves a pat on the back!

Yep. The accolades are few compared to the complaints, but Dave and the rest of the GPC committee have done a superb job in working through it all to forward the GPC's mission statement as any competent committee would do. NO one accepts a leadership role for the glory and the thin-skinned or faint of heart may as well stay on the porch or their tenure will be frustrating and short-lived.

Hats off to the entire committee.
