I dont want to pick on anyone, but why do they call it for first "one ton" word record pumpkin? It is of course a world record. If it was 1 ton the weight should have been 2205.2 pound and not 2009 pound, which is 196 pound less then 1ton.correct me if i am wrong.

Cause you are talking the metric ton. It was grown in the U.S and in the U.S one ton is 2000 pounds. Grow one that big up there, and then you can call it the "196 pound short of one ton pumpkin".

Bossen, no worries. Every industrialized country uses metric except the U.S, and many outside the U.S want that to change which is what I thought you were implying. Happy new year to you too.
Huff, I have no idea how I missed your post and repeated you.

I think you will find that the metric version is tonne. That is usually how you know whether it is 2000 lbs.(ton) or 2200 lbs.(tonne)

metric system counts in kg son no need to convert in pounds and by the way metric system is the most accurate system and that's why scientist use this system, even the American scientist. International research on a high level will always be in metrical system. All countries besides US that already have this system will never change it because it's more international and accurate.

that said I don't see any reason why they wouldn't call it the "one ton" pumpkin. We live in a free world and it was grown in the US so it's up to them to choose what it is called

This could go political real fast!!! I've have a nice selection of US & metric tools also! The differance between our social(moral)& political(econimic) differances with other countries is quickly disappearing. Viva La Differance!!!

There are 3 countries not using the metric system, USA, Liberia and Myanmar. What's wrong with this picture? In the English system there are all sorts of conversion formulas. In the metric system you simply move the decimal point.

I may be off in the slide rule here but if I had to analyticaly project an exact and proper numerical scale of measure within a conversation of said Pumpkin...I would feel both positive and correct in giving an evaluation on this World Record Pumpkin as being..........DAMN BIG!!!

I remember a machinist friend of mine telling me that the inch was actually defined by metric measure. This thread reminded me of that so I looked it up. In 1930 the British Standards Institution adopted an inch of exactly 25.4 mm. The American Standards Association followed suit in 1933. By 1935 industry in 16 countries had adopted the "industrial inch" as it came to be known.[22][23]
So you may think an inch isn't metric but it is. Sorry America, you are metric.
I work in construction and a lot is still done in the old imperial system. It's always funny to watch a young guy think a foot is 10 inches.

Which is more accurate reminds me of helping a freind add an addition to his house. The carpenter told us what length to cut the 2x4,so we would . After about 4 wrong cuts and him cussing us ,we checked the tapes and they didn't match. Question is ,which one was accurate?

Marley , Richard - you realize that a Canadian gallon and an American gallon are different! I will make a plea to everybody in the pumpkin community to make it their new year's resolution to give blood. It usually takes less than 1 hour every 56 days. If you give plasma it takes a little longer and you can give a lot more often. The percentage of people that can give and donate is very low.

I have given alot of plasma, they pay you for plasma. For a while there I felt I should have a spigot in my arm!there was someone here that has given 20 or 30 gallons, from the east coast I think.

The Metric system is not more accurate it is just easier to convert because every thing is based on 10s. you have 100 centimeters in a meter, rather than 12 inches is a foot or 36 inches in a yard which makes things a whole lot easier when adding things up.
