i'm in the process of building a new patch. if I take a 10 pound bag of myco and spread it over the patch, does it potentially do anything beneficial if there is no cover crop in place?

I'm still in the process of amending the new patch, otherwise I would probably put in a cover crop. Are there any cover crops that still grow once the weather is cold (like it is now that it is november?)

Winter Rye is the hardiest of all common grains. It will germinate slowly at temps of 39 degrees F. or above. grain crops can be a good host for mycorrhizal fungi, but if the patch lays fallow, I would wait until next season to apply additional myco. Best wishes, Joel

I would only apply it if you were going to plant some thing ( cover crop) if not just a waste o money to apply it to empty ground.

If you apply it and do heavy tilling you might till it so deep the roots might not reach it.

myco only works when it's in contact with roots
