Short of everyones saying "Next door to the Wallaces", If you had a choice to grow AG's anywhere in the U.S.........Given some of the statistics out there and your own personal experiences, Where would you like to be growing AG's competively? If you had thee ability to move anywhere in the country to grow AG's........Where would it be? I hope to hear from New to Veteran Growers on this even though their personal family roots grow much deeper than the AG's do...no pun intended.....Thanks for any guidance on this pretty serious not so hypathetical question.

I'm certain that the northeast will continue to produce more world records in the coming years, so I'd choose somewhere in New England, & maybe even a bit on the northern end of it! So many great pumpkins are coming from ever further and further north, but you did specify: U.S.

Of course schools are my number one priority for my daughter. With that said I also have to consider rural property values and taxes in the New England area. Any one hear of any good deals in the country drop me an email. WIZ, I forgot about the Grapes ties with soil related cultures along side Pumpkin growing, somebody in Napa Valley ought to be cornering the market on "AG Wines ,lol. I kinda figured most would be pointing me towards the northeast and yes the Ohio River Basin. Linus I'll check out the totality of the 45th par. Intresting point. This is going to be tuff for someone who hates cold winters..its called old age, lol. Well so far, all of you have given me some home work to do. Thanks....and What!!...No Hawaii growers out there, lol!!

my 2 cents on the subject for what its worth, although iowa illinois not always gets prime weather. tables will turn and you will see more records from the area and even a world record someday.get your skills down and patch in order it will happen

I think Ohio has demonstrated the most consistency through the years, with New England coming up next. If I ever moved, one choice might be western Washington where I lived as a teenager. Ultimately though, I'm a pioneer at heart. I volunteer to forge a trail of growing giants in the Hawaiian Islands. All I need is a sponsor.

LIpumpkin...I've looked already..not there, condos and beach huts, lol. Don I think you are correct in your analysis, heck I may end up in Iowa... CliffWarren, I like your thinking, lol. Hawaii has some if not Thee most fertile soils in the world and the minerals add up for Pumpkins. The airfreight, lol is why no one grows one over there to have to fly it to the main land for a GPC weigh off, lol. Looked at a couple properties around Bradford, Maine. One of the properties has 3bdrm/barn/seperate 2 car garage sittin on 47 acres half tillage with 700 ft. on a trout/salmon creek asking $65,000.00 bank owned. Thing is do I really want to know what its like living at the North Pole, lol. Anybody live up that way that would know if the pros more than outweigh the cons up in that area?

With greenhouses I think we can push the ideal growing area North to colder climates. that will have the advantage of reducing insect pressure, at the same time. As more norther growers turn to greenhouse growing, I think the records will shift north.

I am going with 41.6911° N, 71.7458° W. If you are within a mile or so of this location you should be good.

Anywhere, I think a greenhouse with a removable roof would make all areas equal, with heat or air conditioning.

Maine

Maine is a very beautiful state and a great place to raise kids. You can still buy property reasonable with acreage. I live 12 miles outside of Augusta and feel there is no reason we can't produce the next world record. The weather is perfect for growing a monster. There is a grower from Bradford who grows big ones...last year he had one 1375 lbs. Of course I am a little partial to my home state but there are lots of great places in this country and any of the places mention would make a great home.

But Don't forget we have Lobster and the shells make great fertilizer. All my friends and family save them for me for my patch.

Joe1327..OK now yer just makin me hungry with the lobster talk, lol. Wow your in the Capital area, pretty nice there I hear. I like the comments about green houses too. I've seen some properties up there that either have them already or barns that wouldn't take too much too convert. Bat Cave, sounds a little Green to me, lol....still thinkin about those darn Lobsters, lol. Darky (Steve), Home of the Worlds Fastest Indian and Bobs yer Uncle. What a Gorgeous Place on Earth. Thanks for the comments so far everybody. I've got to try and do something by March..not much time.

Not to discourage anyone from moving to Wyoming, especially since I've lived here my entire life and at several different cities within Wyoming. I love Wyoming and especially the Northwest side of the state where I grew up.

However............

Hail?

Wind?
http://www.bigsiteofamazingfacts.com/where-is-the-windiest-city-in-the-united-states-and-how-windy-is-cheyenne-wyoming
I've heard Sheridan and the Lander area are the least Windy.

I've watched several companies move their operations here and leave after spending a winter.

Fishing is incredible in the Northwest corner and hunting is always an adventure. Plenty of rock climbing and wide open spaces.

For pumpkin growing? Hmmmm.....Ron H. has mastered this where he lives.

Personally, I'm thinking Northeast Pennsylvania might be a neat place to grow pumpkins.

Pumpfanatic, I lived\worked in Iceland for a while. Wind their is so bad they don't have trees except in a few spots. With Wyoming, I'll add Idaho and Montana to my list. State records in those states are bigger than the deep southern states so it can't be that bad. Can't beat the fishing and hunting either!

DONKIN I thought it was cape breton? Second best place is my farm on the 45 degree Carrols Corner. If only I had the time to grow out there I'd give you a run for the money, lol. I grew a 525 when I was 15 in 1989 give or take a year, with no watering or morning sun (good gardens were used for food) these good gardens have laid dormant for 15 or more years now, with only geese and chickens eating the grass on them and of course pooping.

Just listening to you all it appears between between 45 and 41 is the best for growing. PumpkinFanatic I think your right on Northeast Pennsylvania too, that would be good for my daughter and I because I have a Brother and his family that is moving back to the south east corner of the state from Chicago and I would be closer to them too. I've come to a realization......House Hunting in a short time frame and doing it right for the final time..... Sucks, lol. My search continues as it has just begun.
