This year in pumpkin growing has been exciting. My question to all growers is. Has this years record weights. Motivated you to reach higher to beat your personal best or has it gotten. You a bit discouraged. Seeing the massive Weights.. I gotta admit that after two years of. Splitting pumpkins keeping the motivation has been Tough for me. Here at the heats patch we'll continue to keep working towed our Goal.

Had some issues this year with a couple of plants but did not let it discourage me. This was the first time in six years that I have been able to give these things the attention they need. It has been a learning experience, as every year is, but with the records this year and all the hype it has really motivated me(especially Carls' Mold Monster). I have also realized my limitations. This year has been my personal best by more than three fold. My goal this year was 1000 lbs. Even though I didn't reach it I had a super season. Goal for next year is just to do my best and hope I hit a 1000 lbs....and to keep it fun. I don't have to be the best in the world!!!

I know what it is like to get discouraged with this hobby.
The only advice i can offer is "Never Give Up"....You never know what the next season will bring to you !

Last year or the year before,I really don't remember because I have moved on, I stood and watched while a Starling bit off my newly planted and only plant at ground level. Disappointed?...yes! Discouraged?...I'm still growing. There are some things we have no control over and can't do anything about. Drought and heat are one. Be disappointed but don't get discouraged.

Enjoy the journey. At this point, whenever I see someone I know but only run into once in a while, the first question I get is, "How are your pumpkins doing?" I could not quit now if I wanted to. I'd let too many people down.
I haven't had a personal best in the last four years! This year, with incredible weather, was a real downer. I don't think we'll see weather in my area this good again in 20 years. And I missed the boat.
So, I'm going orange and trying to enjoy the hobby.

i look at it this way, if i play golf, do i do it for the money? do i think i could ever win the masters? no, but some year i might get a hole in one,, for a majority of us we probably will never beat the tigers of the pumpkin world, do it for fun, enjoyment, and the looks you get driving down the highway going to a weigh-off, do it for your enjoyment, and do it for the area kids, to see the smiles on there faces is just priceless........ i will never get discouraged! this ride is a fun one! and i will stand in line for it again next year. scott.

Define your goal and work hard to achieve it. Don't set those goals so high that you set yourself up for failure and remember, Ma Nature has the final say. A realistic goal from season to season is to beat your personal best.

I'm a good grower, when I do break the record I will look back and say, hey, I let them beat me for 4 years!....but seriously, I just enjoy doing it, its almost magic, this plant is going to gain 25 pounds over night! thats crazy for a plant! house plants you water them and in two weeks you might see a slight difference. Despite the weather and me making mistakes. My wife says its a good clean hobby and at least she knows I'm not at a bar chasing woman around!

When I break the world record next year I going to shout out-"Nobody beats me 17 years in a row, nobody".It's all about personal and regional weights for my motivation.

My motivation is to increase the weight and growing skills from the previous year, and a lot of the same things that Marley said. Spending time out in the patch after a long day of work is like a little slice of heaven.
Don't get me wrong, I try to take it to the extreme and want a record just as much as the next guy. This is kind of like spending lots of time and effort into working the stock market - you can try hard and end up being a billionaire . . . or broke :-)
