OOH!!! That sounds pretty generous. If it wasn't such a pain in the ass to load it, I would take it to the local elevator scale to get weighed. But ive been through that trauma once and i'm done for the year!! It would be good to know. Be interested what others think!!

Its probably more of a percentage loss, so depends on the size of the pumpkin. Dryness of the surrounding air, how porus (SP?) the shell is, temps, precip, if tin foil is involved, rot, gravitational variance, decrease in pressure of the innermost outter mongoleus, coefficient of the shutuphester youreanidiot, and other factors.

BUT, I bet if you freeze it in a situation with sub freezeing temps and 100% humidity it wouldn't lose any weight given all other factors were the same. Sorry drank too much coffee...

I think it depends how big it is and how much heat and sun it gets. I'll find out next weekend how much my 650lb pumpkin lost after 7 weeks off the vine

The OTT said 338 so around 850lbs at the time I cut it from the vine and the pumpkin was and still is very healthy and firm with temps at an average of about 55

Bosco, mine was off the vine for about 4 weeks and taped at 353 or 964 lbs.

Its official weight was 833 lbs. so I'd say it lost a little weight ;)

Hey Joe W is the 650 an est or the actual weight if it was the actual weight I would be very interested to here the results, cause its hard to know how much weight was lost without a actual weight just cause of the whole heavy and light thing that goes on with pumpkins and OTT charts can't judge for that.

I like those numbers leines, hope mine has only lost a few pounds cause it looks like light is the popular consensus this year.

It's actual weight was 655 about 3% heavy. I had it in a cool shed in the shade on a pallet for 5 weeks and outside for what will be 2 weeks next weekend. It will be interesting to see how much it looses.

My 1417 lost 13# in 13 days.
My 1407 lost 10# in 8 days.

Keeping the pumpkin cool, wet, and covered had a slight advantage over setting one out in the open air.

I had two off the vine this year one off for 40 days lost
0.825 pounds per day, on display for 12 days and in the back of my truck for 28 days uncovered. The second one had the stem totally removed and was covered in the patch with a huge fan trying to stop the rot,it lost 2.3 pounds per day.
